Thank you to all the volunteer judges, workers, coaches, administrators and everyone who gave their time to provide another amazing opportunity for our students and families!
Six success shout out’s for MacArthur Elementary School!
1. MacArthur had a very successful Read Across America Day. They had a reading party for parents and students in the cafeteria as part of enriched learning day for March.
2. 5th grade students rocked the Science Fair competition.
3. MacArthur recently partnered with migrant programs and helped a family facing homelessness to find a permanent home.
4. They met with representatives from the PED last week during the afterschool Century 21 programs and received amazing feedback about all of their wrap around services that we provide for students.
5. They are working hard on supporting students through concentrating on the following 3 restorative practices:
• Making respect agreements living and changing documents,
• Creating routines for calming corners,
• Using Sparks and Circles more often to build meaningful relationships in our classrooms.
6. They met their 90-Day goal in Literacy, seeing of a 10% increase in proficiency across all grade levels.

As part of the 2023 Las Cruces Space Festival, our center is offering free space simulation missions to the public. Bring the family, friends, co-workers, or just yourself for a trip to the Moon or Mars. The missions are open to anyone ages 8 and above. Space is limited and these offerings usually fill quickly.

New Immunization Requirements for 11th Grade Entry
To attend school in New Mexico, all children unless legally exempted, must meet immunization requirements as set forth by state regulations. The Department of Health School Entry Immunizations Requirements now state that 2 Meningococcal vaccines are required for 11th grade entry for the 2023-24 school year.
Students will not be allowed to attend for the new school year 2023/24 until this requirement is met. Please give this matter your immediate attention so that your child’s health may be protected, and their education may continue.
If you have questions regarding immunizations, please contact your school nurse.

Thank you to the student leaders at Tombaugh Elementary for pitching in to collect items from all grade levels in order to donate to Project Link.
5th grade students at Tombaugh organized the project, and every grade level participated in collecting donations. Each grade level focused on certain items to donate, such as shoes, non-perishable food items, clothing, monetary donations, toiletry items, baby items, blankets, etc. The school filled Miss Cecilia's vehicle 2 times with all the donations. Keep up the great work, Comets!
More about Project Link: Project Link Homeless Education Program works to improve the educational outcomes for homeless students by providing educational support through tutoring, basic needs such as school supplies, hygiene items, snacks and clothing. Project Link also assists families in collaborating with community, social service organizations, and with school personnel to identify and serve students in need.
Congratulations to Valeria Garcia-Aguirre, the LCPS student athlete of the week from Mayfield High School. Valeria holds a season record of 33-2. She is the 2023 NMAA State Champion at 126 pounds. She placed first in the Bowie Invitational, and first in the Region 2 State Qualifier. Her coach says Valeria is a great role model for all of her teammates and fellow students. She is always extremely upbeat, motivated, and unselfishly helps those around her to improve their performance and achieve their goals. The ultimate leader and teammate.
Congratulations to Diego Guerra, the LCPS student athlete of the week from Mayfield High School. Diego is the team captain in wrestling; he holds a season record of 25-16. He placed second at the Region 2 State Qualifier and third at the Bowie Invitational. His coach says he is a very motivated and dedicated individual, who has demonstrated an innate ability to set and achieve very ambitious goals.
Power Outage for White Sands School Prompts Remote Learning for Monday
Students at White Sands School will be working remotely from home on Monday February 26, due to a reported power outage after overnight high wind gusts. El Paso Electric is working to resolve the issue.
Busing for High School students who live on the installation traveling from the White Sands area will still be available for students and will resume as normally scheduled.
Parents and staff are advised to check www.lcps.net for any additional Information.

Wednesday's weather forced the cancellation of three scheduled games for Las Cruces Public Schools: Sierra Middle School v. White Sands (boys basketball) and the District 3-5A Boys Basketball Tournament between Alamogordo and Las Cruces High and Organ Mountain versus Centennial High School. The district games have been rescheduled as follows:
Alamogordo v. LCHS - Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
OMHS v. Centennial - Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m.
To accommodate the rescheduled games, start times for the District 3-5A Girls Basketball Tournament had to be adjusted. Please see attached brackets for additional information.
