Alternative Licensure Residency Program Overview:

• The Alternative Licensure Residency program features in person and online courses with university supervisors, and on-site mentor teachers to facilitate on-going field coaching and mentoring. Each resident accepted to the Alternative Licensure Residency program will obtain valuable classroom experience as a resident student teacher by collaborating with a mentor teacher during the Spring 2024 semester.

• During the Spring 2024 semester, NMSU ALP Residents will receive a $17,500 stipend, co-teaching experiences with a Level II or Level III mentor teacher, ongoing professional development opportunities, and more.

• Successful completion of the NMSU Alternative Licensure Residency Program, including enrolling in and passing all courses with a 3.0 or better, and meeting district evaluation reviews. The school district will then offer an interview and potential employment as the teacher of record for a minimum of 3 years following the residency year (contingent on positive district evaluations and completion of NMSU coursework).

• Residents agree to a minimum of 3 years of employment with their cooperating district as a licensed teacher in a 6-12th grade content classroom.

• Residents may also choose to apply their earned course credits towards a master’s degree in the licensing area or another graduate program in NMSU’s School of Teacher Preparation, Administration, and Leadership
